With Sue Murphy (Murphy/St. Paul) We were actors. We wrote sketches. Our first night, we killed. Our second night we did a different sketch. We died. Thus started our transformation from actors to comedians.

Memorable Night
First night of the 1989 SF Comedy Competition. I took first. I was drunk with joy. I had developed my own act in LA, after Sue and I split up. I didn’t want to debut in SF until I was ready. This was it.
Comedy Nightmare
Faulty equipment
My microphone went dead in the finals at Davies Symphony Hall. It killed my momentum. But I was happy to see Dexter Madison (Joe Campaiola) win. He had a tremendous set…and he really needed the money.

I took my precocious 3-year old son Roy to pre-school his first day. The teacher said, “Roy! Now that’s a name you don’t hear everyday.” He looked up to her and said “Nope. I hear it every day.”
